Is Bridgeport the next spot for avant-arties?
This sort of chatter has been going on for a bit now. While East Pilsen has loaded up on the galleries, the crowd on the streets is still overwhelmingly Hispanic. The artists have come, but major gentrification has not followed as has been predicted for ages. (1996 Utne Reader article sited Pilsen as Chicago's next Wicker Park) While Bridgeport has the space, low rents and the Zhou brothers.
Something makes us think that Bridgeport will fight gentrification like no other spot in the city.
